The town of Beaumont is in the mountains northwest of Palm Springs. Off-roaders have been visiting the hills in and around the town of Beaumont since the 1970's and during the 70's and 80's De Anza Cycle Park which was nearby tried to get approval to be a green sticker open riding park. De Anza had open riding area which utilized the same steep valleys and foothills that have put the Beaumont area on the off-road map. De Anza Cycle Park also had multiple MX tracks and was home to the Yamaha factory SX test track for many years. The park was closed in the early 1990's when it was found to be the habitat of a rare bird; ironic considering the I-60 freeway cuts right through the same area which is also home to an ever expanding Riverside Co. landfill.

Since the 1990's and the closing of De Anza Cyle park, the off road areas in and around Beaumont have become increasingly patrolled by law enforcement using off-road motorcycles and helicopters. Fines and impoundment of vehicles is a reality that keeps most people away from this ever present area of advanced hills and trails, known worldwide as some of the best riding terrain anywhere in the world. Much of the area in and around Beaumont is being developed or is owned by Lockheed an Aeronautics/Space & Electronic Information Systems company.
